Off to Brunei Darussalam this morning for two days. My last visit was five years ago.

Brunei is an old friend of Singapore. It began with Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the late Seri Begawan (the father of the present Sultan) in the 1960s. Both Mr Lee and the Sri Begawan negotiated to join Malaysia, and became friends. In the end Singapore joined, but Brunei stayed out. Today we are both independent countries.

This special friendship has endured and deepened. One area of cooperation is defence. Generations of SAF servicemen have done jungle training at Temburong, climbing Mount Biang and crossing Sungai Batu Apoi. Singapore and Brunei work together in many other areas too.

I wrote an op-ed to capture these longstanding ties. Will share more tomorrow. :-) – LHL

On this page I talk about the things I’m doing and thinking about, but I would also like to hear from you, about what we can do together for Singapore.
